To get this off of my chest...
I have had a very hard time with this whole proposition 8 situation. I had a hard time getting involved because I thought we should keep our political affairs to ourselves. We were then strongly urged to help out in anyway we could, and I did. This is something I strongly believe in. I don't understand how people can call supporters of 8(especially the Mormons) bigots. When did it become wrong for us to have free speech, and fight for what we believe in? As a church, we were not involved in any ill towards those opposing. We simply supported it as much as we could by doing things as contributing money, calling voters, and putting up signs. Now, there were many (and I can't say all of the supporters were angels) that opposed prop 8 and they took part in vandalizing and other horrible things. We now have had people protesting and vandalizing outside of the temple grounds for 3 days. I do not understand this. I can see why they protest, but to me it is a little hypocritical when they call us haters and bigots, when they are doing just what they are protesting against. They are fighting for what they believe in...so are we. When did that become bigotry? My beliefs are such that I do not believe in gay marriage. I also believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and should not be prosecuted for their beliefs. I find it wrong that people would rudely protest and vandalize outside of a place that we hold sacred. I know there are many people out there, on both sides of this, that are not participating in those acts. To those I thank you. I understand your side of the issue and see why you fight for you want. To that I say, so do we. I wish we could all respect each others opinions and leave it at that. I also say that those who did get married during the time it was legal, should stay married. You did not do anything wrong by getting married. It was legal at the time and that should not be taken away from you. I just wanted to make a comment on how there are always two sides to every issue and that no matter what you believe, there can still be respect and friendship. It is funny that what unites us as a people, divides us. We all came together to vote on what we believed, yet there was a division in our beliefs. Please, let us just respect each other and end the "hatred."

I agree. It has made me so sad to see all of this happening especially to our temple's. If anything, it has taught me to be more respectful of others no matter their beliefs, but also stay strong in my own. I'm glad you posted this because i have been itching to write about this, but this relieved me. Thanks!
WOW! I keep telling Josh that I am glad that I am not a Mormon or lesbian in California right now. Good for you for being strong.
Wow! I had no idea people were taking it that serious (vandalizing the temple). That's horrible! Good for you for doing a post on it and stating your feelings! Hear Hear!
I have had it with all the rude things that are being said. I am so ticked that they are acting like kids. Why are we the only ones who they are mad at? Last time I checked alot of other churches feel the same and did what we did. I am so sick of it.
Very nicely put. I agree. I too have been wanting to write about this but have refrained for certain reasons, so I am very glad you wrote about it. Besides you live in California, you know exactly what is going on.
I was just telling Tyler that I am glad we do not live in California. Are world is getting a little crazy. I am so glad for your post and feel we need to have more faith and support our dear Prophet.
Britt-
I also agree with you. I am tired of all the fighting. I was also bothered by a lot of people who were McCain supporters and have booed Obama after he made President. There is nothing that can change or be done, Obama won, now everyone needs to support him because trash talking him and booing him is not going to change the fact that he will be the next President of the United States and he needs all the support that he can get. Anyway, I'm proud of you for standing up for what you believe in. I was talking with some friends yesterday and one was saying that there was no way she could have been a pioneer because of everything they had to go through and I reminded her that when we are in heaven people will bow down to us because of what we have gone through. This is a testament that we still to this day are going to receive persecution for what we believe in, even as the pioneers did so many years ago. Wow! Now that feels like something a Relief Society president would say, sorry. I love you and miss you! Hold strong while you are out there.
